We have the local council elections just aroudn the corner, while perhaps a seemingly insignificant part of our life our local council is an integral part of the Mornington Peninsula and Mount Martha. The make decisions on things like;
- Planning – while the whole of Victoria has a planning scheme controlled by the Victorian government the local council controls its local application and approves each house and subdivision as it comes through. This process is critical in allowing development but without damaging the look and feel of our gorgeous area.
- Boat ramps and boat ramp parking – certainly something we enjoy and also a major part of the weekend and holiday tourism that sustains parts of the peninsula
- Parks and open space, the council maintains these areas for us, puts in new equipment and plantings etc
It is worth paying at least a little bit of attention for the reasons above + more or else the next time you are whinging about the oversized monster being built down the road form you it could be that you are the one who elected the person who allowed it!
